The adventures of our first two months!

School is just around the corner for me and so I decided that I must post again before I got even further behind. It's been a long time since I promised pictures of our apartment so that will be first. We also want to share with you what we have been up to lately.
View of our kitchen.  I am actually standing by our fridge looking out.  Our fridge is kind of hidden in the corner.

Our laundry room.  One of the things we both said was a necessity.  It is a closet in our kitchen.

Sorry this is so dark.  This is a view of  our living room from the kitchen.  We have a little breakfast bar that separates the two.

This bookshelf was one of our first purchases together.  However, it doesn't have any books on it :)

I am standing next to that bookshelf looking at our furniture.  The lamp was a wedding present.  I had been given the rocking chair a couple of years ago.  We found the couch on Creig's List.  We are VERY happy with it.

This is our view from our back door and patio!

We actually just purchased a new TV yesterday to replace this one!  We used our Target gift cards we had received from our wedding.

Our beautiful view.  We are so blessed we look over this pond instead of a parking lot or another building.  Jon loves to count the geese that visit.  There are two baby geese and their parents that have lived on the pond all summer long.

This is our back door.  The Schmidt's and Baas' (very good friends of ours) gave us the patio furniture for our wedding.  We love it! To the left is an outdoor storage closet.
We are so happy in our home.  It feels like home and is so nice to come back to together.  We love having people over and even had our first over night visitor, my sister Lindsea :)
Now for more on our life here in Lincoln, NE.  We have had a busy, yet very relaxing summer.  It has been filled with games, weddings, and getting organized.  Jon has enjoyed his work at the Lincoln Raquet Club.  All the people there love him (they've told me so!).  I have enjoyed a very relaxing summer at home.  I finished writing all the thank you notes for our wedding, read a lot, and hung out by the pool.  I also started to give plasma.  I am not afraid of blood and it is a good way to make a little bit of cash every week.

I don't know how these two pictures got here, but I can't figure out how to move them up.  This is obviously our kitchen table.  The pictures are some of Jon's favorites that Johnny took on his trip to Scotland.

Another view of our kitchen.  It actually has a lot of floor space.  Our apartment is handicap accessable, so there is more floor space than "normal".

After we came back from our honeymoon, we got together with some of our friends who had not been able to make it up to Montana for the wedding.  Ryan and Lisa Burger, who also live in Lincoln, were gracious hosts to our little party.  We had so much fun catching up and grilling out.  Although only Ryan actually stepped outside.  It was SO HOT!  Thank you Ryan and Lisa Burger, Nolan and Amy Harms, Dana and Danielle Schmidt, Craig and Amanda Baas, and Drew and M'Leigh Olson for being such great friends!

We played a game called Shenanigans, girls vs. guys, and we learned that oompa loompa is indeed two words.  The group of us are all athletes so games like this one can become VERY competetive but resulted in a whole lot of laughs.  I can't remember all the rules so I will not try to explain it to you now.  If you are interested, ask Jon.

A week later, we had a little going away party for Dana and Danielle.  They are the couple on the right.  They have now moved to Des Moines, Iowa.  Dana started physical therapy school and Danielle is now a varsity volleyball coach.  It was also very close to Craig and Amanda's 1 year anniversary.
If you notice, this is our apartment!

We had some appetizers at our house to tide us over until everyone had arrived.  We then went to Buffalo Wild Wings because Dana had never been there before.

Dana and Danielle gave Craig and Amanda a game called "Liar's Dice".  Dana made the board himself.  We had played this game many times together.

The group of us outside Buffalo Wild Wings.  We miss you Schmidt's!

One Sunday afternoon, we went to Omaha to visit my aunt, uncle, and cousins.  We had a great time playing fooseball, dominos, and a yummy meal of hamburgers, fresh veggies, and watermelon.

Jon is working hard.  This is the tennis desk that he manages when he is not on the court playing tennis.  Doesn't he look great :)

On Tuesday's and Thursday's I have been going to work with Jon because there is a women's league that plays.  Since we've been in Lincoln, I have become the ultimate sub.  These are some of the ladies I play with.  They have been so much fun to get to know.

WEDDING TIME!!!
On August 6th, we carpooled with Drew and M'Leigh Olson up to Gwinner, North Dakota for Katie and Josh Mlnarik's wedding.  Katie went to Concordia, played volleyball with me for a couple years, and played intramurals with Jon.  She became a very good friend.

Cozy in the back seat

M'Leigh was a bridesmaid in the wedding but after the rehersal on Friday night, the four of us got together to play some games.  Drew loved Archaeology!

The beautiful couple! Sorry the picture is sideways :(

On the ride up to Gwinner, we all wore white t-shirts, then on Sunday at church, Drew and Jon also dressed very similar.  They thought they should document their style.

Lindsea came to stay with us August 10-12 before volleyball started.  On Thursday, we went up to Omaha and met my aunt Dena and cousins at the Henry Doorly Zoo.
Jon, hanging on the railing enjoying the penguins

The whole crew of us!  We had so much fun!!!

Another WEDDING!!!!
On August 13th, my friend and housemate from my senior year, Nicki Axleson became Nicki Shaffer in Denver CO.
It was a great time to be able to see many of our friends from Concordia, some of them for maybe the last time.  Jon and I carpooled with my friend Valerie Schick (she designed our wedding invitations).  She lives in the same apartment complex and we have done a lot with her this summer.  We met up with Alexa Oelke (my personal attendent at the wedding).  Her cousins were very generous and let us all stay with them.  On Saturday morning, we actually went to the mall and got our makeup done by MAC.  I had never heard of them but apparently celebrities get their makeup from this store.  This is the finished property.  Aren't my friends beautiful!

For some reason, the color to wear for girls at Nicki and Jacob's wedding was black.  We followed the trend.  I am surrounded by my wonderful husband on one side of me, and some pretty amazing girls on the other side of me.  I am so blessed.

So, we don't have a grill but we do have a George Forman.  I tried to grill chicken on it when Lindsea was here.  Tasted good, but definitely missed the "grilled" taste.

The sisters.  I went with Lindsea on Friday the 12th to help her move in and to see Ashlea.  It was a happy reunion.  I also got to see Ashlea's ring for the first time since Ben Anderson asked Ashlea to be his wife.  Congratulations Ben and Ashlea!!  We love you!

Well, I think that's a wrap for now!  We hope you have enjoyed a glimpse into our lives.  We are so blessed by the people in our lives who love us and are praying for us.  We ask that you continue those prayers.  We are enjoying our married life immensely.  We have spent many days playing tennis, and many evenings playing games.  Our favorite this month was probably Archaeology.
School starts on Monday, August 22.  It is the last first day of college for me.  I am very ready for it to come and go.  Jon is excited for the fall session of tennis to start in September.  Then he will have his afternoons full of tennis classes and lessons.
Jesus be with you all and we love you!
