Time is like the wind...

Well, 9 months later, here is a new post.  I will try to recreate our lives these past months for those of you who we may not talk to regularly.

As I was thinking about the past months, I came to realize that time is like the wind.  It comes and then it is gone.  It never stays long enough and it always keeps moving, bringing more adventures and people into our lives.  We are blessed to have these pictures and our memories to document the passing of time.  We love spending time with all our friends and family and you are a very important part of our lives.  It has been almost an entire year since Jon and I began our adventure together.  In some ways our wedding seems like ages ago, and in others it seems like yesterday.  It has been a year of changes, many of which are documented here.

 I graduated from Concordia in December while Jon worked at the Lincoln Racquet Club teaching tennis.

Then in January, I began teaching 7th and 8th grade English at Raymond Central Jr/Sr High School.  Jon began working and training with Lutheran Hour Ministries.  In February, we began a young adult bible study, called Young Roads, at our church.  This group has been such a blessing to us and we have met some amazing friends through this group.

Although this isn't the greatest picture, we often have game nights at our apartment.  These have been so much fun!  This particular game is called, Muscle Bucket, a game Kyle and Jon and some other friends have invented.

The five of us attended Alison and Brady Betten's wedding (friends from Concorida) last month.  Valerie was the maid of honor, Nate Meyer, and Breanna Felker.

Jon travels often with Lutheran Hour and has enjoyed meeting many people and exploring new places such as Sioux Falls, Indianapolis, and Minneapolis to name a few.

When Jon is gone, I stay busy with being a coach and a confirmation leader. This year I had a great group of six 7th grade girls.  One of whom was also my student at Raymond Central :)  We have also attended many weddings and have many weddings to come.  One of Jon's co-workers at the Lincoln Racquet Club had his wedding on the tennis courts!

We were blessed to be able to attend Jon's cousin Dana and her husband Matt Hagan's wedding in Palm Beach Florida in May.

Mom Schleicher had quite an adventure at the hotel on Friday.  She is standing in front of a fire truck because the fire department had to rescue her from the elevator!

It was great to meet all of Jon's aunts and uncles at one place.  It was awesome to get to know them as we played games, went to the beach, and talked at the wedding.
This wedding was the fanciest wedding we have ever been to!  Thank you Dana and Matt for the hours of planning that it took to create such a wonderful day.  We were so happy to see you happily married :)

Some other major events of the year included Thanksgiving with the Texas Schleicher family, Christmas with the Vaudt family in Montana, a new car,

2009 Honda Accord replaced my 1999 Nissan Altima.  We love it!

This picture is documenting the huge storm we had in April.  We had tickets to the Nebraska spring game but it was raining and starting to storm so we still went downtown to park our car in the parking garage because we were supposed to have hail and we didn't want any damage on our new car!  Well, no hail came but we sat in Panera Bread for about 4 hours that afternoon playing games.

 Our very good friends Drew and M'Leigh Olson had a beautiful baby girl, Adelyn J'Nae on the same day as the storm.  We were able to visit them that night and then again before church on Sunday.  She is so precious and we are very happy for them!

Last but not least...

 Jason Schleicher along with a couple kids from his youth group came all the way from Billings MT to share a weekend with us and check out Concordia.  Jon was able to take them to a baseball game.  It was great to see Jason and we enjoyed having company.

 Carson Stokebrand came to visit.  He is living in New York City working on the "Good Morning America" show.  We are so proud of him!

When Jon was in Minneapolis, he was able to catch a Timberwolves game with John Maragos.

 One night, Jon surprised me by having supper ready when I came home from school.  We were even able to eat outside.  What a thoughtful husband!

I hope you enjoyed a sneak peek into our lives.  I know that it is not really in chronological order but instead I tried to group similar events together for you.  This summer will be busy with more weddings, a few baptisms, and many fun gatherings with friends and family.  We hope to see or talk to you soon.  Jesus be with you as you go through each day.

Firsts

The last few weeks have included many firsts for us.  The first day back to school at Concordia.  The first time I was able to go to Greekfest.  Jon's first day of working in the Marketing office at Concordia.  My name is on the call list for the first time.  First time we were able to celebrate Sandra James' birthday.  First time Jon and I went frisbee golfing (with an amazing group of friends).  The first time something was wrong with our apartment (we found mold).  And the first time we have really begun to wonder what God has in store for us and where we are headed first.

Last week we found out that we would not be moving to Irvine, CA.  If you remember, all summer Jon was having interviews with Concordia Ivrine's development office.  We had given it a lot of thought and prayer and had readied ourselves for that potential move, if they offered Jon the job.  August 26, Jon received a call telling him that although they had chosen Jon for the job, they could not wait until January for us to move out there.  Instead, they had decided to fill other needs at the school.  That same day, Jon was given a chance to work at Concordia Seward in the Marketing office part-time as they look to fill the position.  Jon has also applied to a few places in the Minneapolis and Rochester, MN area.  My name as officially been added to the call list to add another wrinkle.  We know that God is in control and are resting in his promises.  We are praying for God to give us wisdom in every part of our lives but especially vocational.  There just seem to be so many "what if's" to think about.  We would love your prayers.

Greekfest - Rochester, MN
Family friends, the Maragos family, are Greek Orthodox and every year their church puts on a festival.  The family operates the gyro (yee-row) stand and we were able to help with it.

 My main job was grilling the pitas.

 This family is not quiet!  We were definitely the loudest stand at the festival.  We also had the most customers all weekend!  And most importantly, we all had a blast doing it!

 The festival included Greek dancers and singers.  At one point, the Gyro stand went to dance during a song.  I was videotaping it until they dragged me in and taught me too!

 The assembly line: Far right - sauce on pita, middle - meat (lamb or chicken), left - tomatoes & onions, far left (can't see) is the wrapper.  In the front they are selling and running to refill whatever is needed.  We had the assembly line down to a science.

Karen Chittick from Lincoln (Graphic designer at Concordia and worked with Jon in the Marketing department), also came with and worked with us in the gyro tent.  Karen took our engagement photos and designed our wedding bulletins.  It was so good to have her along!

One of my close friends from Montana, Margaret Koenig, is living in Rochester now and going to P.T. school at Mayo.  It was such a blessing to see her and spend some quality time with her.  

Labor Day Weekend!  

We had a busy weekend hanging out with some awesome friends and family.  On Saturday, I went to Omaha to watch Ashlea play in a volleyball tournament.  I was able to hang out with Dena, Rose, and Nathan, Ben, and even Nico Ethofer (volleyball friend) for awhile.  That night we had Carson Stokebrand and Sandra James over for dinner and games.

We played monopoly!  I don't think I had ever before completely finished a game of monopoly until that night.  It was actually very fun!

 Jon unfortunately was the first to go bankrupt so he became the photographer.

 Carson was the big winner! The runner-up is looking very sad.

On Sunday after church Lindsea came over for lunch.  That afternoon, the Olsons and the Baas' came to Lincoln to go frisbee golf, supper, and games.  We piled in the Baas' van and headed out for some fun!
